I once asked the good Lord above to buy me a Mercedes-Benz. I figured that it worked for Janis Joplin, so it would work for me too, right? I think my request must have got lost in the pile somewhere because He still hasn’t bought me that shiny new Mercedes AMG A45!
If you’re thinking about buying a Mercedes, the German carmaker produces luxury, executive and high-performance cars. But the trouble is, the prices of brand new Mercedes-Benz models are a little out of reach for a lot of folks.
The obvious answer to this problem is to buy a used model. We all know that used cars are so much cheaper to buy than new ones. But if you wanted to buy a Mercedes-Benz, should you buy a used one? Or would it be a better idea to save up some cash and buy a brand new one?
In my experience, it makes perfect sense. Here are four reasons that back up what I’m suggesting:
1 Depreciation
First of all, there is an ugly word called “depreciation” that many people seem to forget about. The thing about all cars is that they lose value. It doesn’t matter if you buy a Dacia Duster or a Ferrari California. Your car will never be worth as much as it did brand new!
If you want to buy a “new” car, I recommend buying one that is around one to two years old. You will save thousands, and you will still enjoy the new car warranty! Even wealthy people don’t buy brand new cars as it just doesn’t make financial sense.
2 Model choice
Sometimes when you order a new car, you have a waiting period before you can get behind the wheel. The waiting period doesn’t apply to used cars, especially Mercedes-Benz models. That’s because they are available to buy and drive off the same day.
3 Price
Used cars are much cheaper than brand new ones. You can pretty much figure out how much a specific used Mercedes-Benz will cost you. But sometimes you might be lucky and pick up an absolute bargain!
For example, some private sellers will be keen to sell their Mercs if they are moving abroad or need the money. With so many used Mercedes-Benz cars on the market, you will have no problem finding a model to suit your budget and needs.
4 Build quality
Some cars feel flimsy, like they are paper cars! That is not so with Mercedes-Benz cars! Do a quick Google search, and you will see that their cars are among the best for reliability and build quality.
If you have never driven a Mercedes-Benz before, you should think about getting behind the wheel of one. They feel safe, solid and comfortable. The Euro NCAP results for all their latest models are pretty impressive too.
