Mercedes are completing the release of the E-Class family with a new cabriolet. The whole E-Class range has been updated over the last year and the cabriolet is the fifth and youngest member. A car that let’s it occupants enjoy both comfort and luxury, in the open air.
The roof is a classic soft top and is fully automatic as standard. The fabric is available in a range of colours including brown, red, blue and black. Sophisticated insulation reduces driving noise allowing the occupants to hear each other talk, even at high speeds.
Consumers that choose a cabriolet like to drive with the top down as often as possible. So Mercedes-Benz cabriolets include a draught stop system called AIRCAP, part of the “Cabriolet Comfort” package, which consists of an electric wind deflector module carefully hidden in the roof frame and and electric draught stop behind the rear seats, cutting down the interior turbulence for passengers in the back too. Neck-level heating is also circulated for the driver and front passenger, via the AIRSCARF system, when temperatures are low outside.
Stored in the soft-top compartment of the boot, the roof can be fully opened and closed in 20 seconds when travelling at speeds of up to 50 kph. With a boot capacity of 385 litres the E-Class Cabriolet doesn’t compromise on practicality.
When the soft top is up, the E-Class Cabriolet poses a silhouette similar to that of the E-Class Coupé and the similarities between the two models are apparent in their shared design language, with the emphasis on surfaces with clean lines.
The diamond radiator front grille is positioned low on the drawn-out bonnet of the E-Class Cabriolet. The LED headlamps complete the striking front section, whilst as a new feature, the rear tail lights put on a special show for the driver as they approach or exit the car. Emphasising the sporty character of the cabriolet, the suspension is 15mm lower than that of the E-Class saloon. Demonstrating further sporty credentials with 19 inch tyres.
The interior includes a touch-controlled widescreen cockpit with all the latest driving assistance systems, it also includes smartphone integration and wireless charging. The upper section of the dashboard appears to be hovering, while the cabin’s high-quality finish emphasises the car’s sporty, stylish character. Distinctly sporty highlights include air outlets in Silvershadow with a shape inspired by turbine engines. The seats for all four occupants are individually scuplted and feature sturdy side-bolsters and head restraints. High-grade materials and contemporary colours come together to create a sporty, contemporary look.
As a member of the current E-Class family, the new Cabriolet offers all the familiar features from the E-Class Saloon and Coupé. Active Brake Assist comes as standard. It is able to warn the driver of an imminent collision, provide optimum support with emergency braking and, if necessary, also autonomously apply the brakes. In addition to slower-moving, stopping or stationary vehicles, it can also detect pedestrians crossing in the danger zone ahead of the vehicle.
