The theme at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed is “Full Throttle: The Endless Pursuit of Power” and Mercedes is fully embracing this concept by debuting its latest model for the public, the Mercedes-AMG GT R.
Unveiled to the media today at Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands, the GT R will then be transported to FoS for its public unveiling on the Mercedes-Benz stand and also making its way up the famous hill.
You can watch a video of the GT R being tested at Nurburgring last year below:
Also to be driven up the Goodwood hill is the luxurious and fast Mercedes-AMG S 63 Cabriolet and the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Edition Coupe with its bright yellow decals, which should make the car should be pretty distinguishable. The Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team will also be showing the F1 W05 Hybrid, the car in which Lewis Hamilton won his second World Drivers’ Championship, on the hill.
Classics to be shown include the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLS, the car that won the 1957 American Sports Car Championship and the Mercedes 120 hp racing car of 1906, which was one of the most significant racing cars of its era, taking numerous victories across Europe. The 120 hp will be heading up Goodwood hill and so will the iconic Mercedes-Benz 540 K Streamliner from 1938.
It isn’t all about the cars though. The FoS will see a number of Mercedes-Benz brand ambassadors taking to the track including Susie Wolff, Ellen Lohr and Roland Asch.
The 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from 23rd until the 26th June.
